Have a question?
The questions we are asked most often about submitting ideas and the 50:50 partnership.
BigSmile takes ideas from other people and builds and ships them as apps and web services. The revenue that results is split 50:50 with the person who proposed the idea.
It is not contract development where we build someone else's app for a fee. It is a partnership that combines your idea with our execution to create income for both of us.
Yes. If your idea is selected, we cover every cost of planning, development, design, launch and operation. You provide the idea, with no financial outlay or risk.
We split the net profit in half. Net profit is total revenue minus the costs below.
- App store and payment processing fees (Google, Apple and others)
- VAT and other taxes and duties
- Direct running costs — servers, domains, third-party APIs
- Advertising and marketing spent on that service
So net profit = total revenue − (fees + taxes + running costs + advertising), and that amount is split 50:50.
At the point of submission you agree to the revenue share agreement and sign it electronically, so the terms that apply if it is selected and built are recorded in writing. We also keep your submission confidential and use it only to review the idea.
To be straightforward with you, however: an idea in itself cannot be legally monopolised. This agreement does not grant exclusivity over an idea — it governs the fair split of revenue from a product that is actually selected and built.
Yes. Sign in with your Google account and you can see the progress of each submission on the “My ideas” page. Six stages are shown — Received → Under review → Accepted → In production → Launched → Revenue share — and each time the stage changes, the date and any note from us is added to the timeline.
There is no separate sign-up process; Google sign-in is all you need.
There is no fixed answer, but these tend to have the best chance.
- It solves a clear problem, or is clearly fun or useful
- It can realistically be built as an app, website or game
- There is room to earn from ads, in-app purchases or subscriptions
It does not have to be a finished plan. Even a one-line idea is worth sending.
No. Selection is entirely at our discretion. We start building when we are convinced the idea is worth it. If it is not selected there is no cost or penalty of any kind to you.
Settlement is monthly, and your share is paid to the account you nominate by the end of the following month. You can register your bank details in advance on the “Account settings” page. We share the revenue and cost figures openly, and you may ask to see the supporting records.
The source code, design, trademarks and other intellectual property in the finished product belong to BigSmile as the party that builds and operates it. You receive 50% of the net profit that product generates. This is set out in the agreement.
Write up your idea on the “Submit an idea” page, then accept the revenue share agreement and sign electronically. Under Korea's Framework Act on Electronic Documents and Transactions, an electronic signature has the same effect as a handwritten one. You can view and print the signed confirmation again at any time from “My ideas”.
Sign in with a Google account, then your name, email and a description of the idea. Attaching reference images or documents helps the review. Start now at Submit an idea.
